Purpose

The Victim-Survivor Advisory Council (the Advisory Council) is being set up to enable an ongoing voice of victim-survivors of family and sexual violence to the Tasmanian Government.

Victim-survivors hold valuable knowledge and expertise about the lived experience of family and sexual violence and what effective prevention and response services and initiatives should look like. These insights will help to inform and shape the Government’s priorities and actions relating to family and sexual violence prevention and response, including the implementation of our living action plan Survivors at the Centre: Tasmania’s Third Family and Sexual Violence Action Plan 2022-27 (Survivors at the Centre).

Membership

The Victim-Survivor Advisory Council will include between 8-12 members who live in Tasmania and have lived experience of family and/or sexual violence. This includes adults (18 years or over) who have experienced family and/or sexual violence as a child.

We aim for the Victim-Survivor Advisory Council to be representative of the Tasmanian community and be a voice of the diverse experiences of family and sexual violence.

Members of the Advisory Council will be paid for their time and expertise, as they provide important insights to shape the implementation of our living action plan, Survivors at the Centre.

Membership will be for a maximum of four years: a two-year appointment with the option to extend for a further two years.

There will be a rolling membership, meaning some spaces may be reserved for new members to join in subsequent years.

Draft Terms of Reference

The draft Terms of Reference will be reviewed by the Advisory Council at its inaugural meeting in 2023.

Debriefing and Support

The Tasmanian Government is committed to the safety and wellbeing of Advisory Council members. At any point in the recruitment process, or while participating as a member of the Advisory Council, members will be able to access free debriefing or mentoring support from our Advisory Council Support Partner(s) and/or an existing practitioner of their choice.

This is free of charge to members.
